In retail stores and restaurants, most credit card fraud occurs at the point of sale, meaning the checker or the store is the actual thief.
Using SSL SET technology, it is virtually impossible for someone to steal a credit card number as it is being transferred from the customer to your web site server. You can tell if security transactions are enabled by the lock symbol on your browser and the "https" in the address bar instead of the "http" in the address bar.
E-Mail is NEVER secure. Pirates use software to check emails coming from your site and if they see a credit card numeric pattern, they copy the email and steal the number.
Note: The same is true with Passwords. If you send password information through email, it can be intercepted and used by pirates.

Using real time online verification, the credit card is approved immediately. This way, you can ensure that no one with the exception of the customer and the computer ever sees the credit card number. This is another level of protection for your customers.
